Two 91²Ö¿â instructors presented on a successful teaching technique at a recent National Association of Biology Teachers conference.
Biology instructors Lynn Swafford and Sondi Hoffman were invited to display and discuss their poster on âUsing Scratch-Off Cards in Biology Classroomsâ after presenting an abstract proposing the topic.
The poster discussed the âImmediate Feedback Assessment Technique,â how it works, previous studies, the WCC instructorsâ experiences, results of surveys taken by their students, and the advantages and disadvantages of the technique.
âWe have seen an increase in student engagement and understandingâ since starting to use the cards, Swafford and Hoffman concluded, and they will continue to use them and monitor student learning.
They presented their data and determinations at the NABT Professional Development Conference in San Diego, California which they attended with fellow WCC instructor Amy Cherry Millis.
Their poster was one of 48 by teachers, instructors, and professors from around the country in the âGeneralâ category that highlighted strategies and techniques for teaching biology.
